A local boat yard in British Columbia has discovered the biggest shark in its waters, which it says could kill or maim up to 50 people.
It’s a shark that’s been dubbed “Mighty Mantis” and is believed to be the largest in the world.
The large black shark has been spotted in B.C. waters off the coast of Prince Rupert and is known to attack fishermen and surfers.
But, the shark is so large, it could easily kill people.
“We’re lucky to have these big animals,” said Bill Anderson, who owns the B.c.
Boatyard in Prince Rupert.
“We know it’s dangerous to let people in the water.”
The boatyard, which specializes in salvaging and rehabilitating boats, said it’s now in the process of determining what to do with the shark and is working with police to find a way to get it out of the water.
Anderson said he has already saved a few lives in the past few weeks, but the biggest risk to people in British Colombia is the sharks size.
“I mean, we’ve been around sharks for 50 years.
There’s probably hundreds of sharks, and we’ve had sharks in our waters that have killed, maimed and possibly killed people,” Anderson said.
Anderson says he’s now working with a conservation group to determine what to put in place to get the shark out of B.e.C.’s waters.
He’s also calling on the public to be vigilant and check their boats regularly.
“If we’re going to keep these animals in our ocean, we have to be on the lookout for them,” Anderson explained.
“The first thing we need to do is make sure the safety of people is always a top priority.”
