The biggest boats are often the most expensive, with the cheapest boats costing $1,000.
And many of the boats at the dockyards in Maine are also the least technologically advanced.
But what sets Avondale Boats apart from other dockyards is that it’s an independent contractor, so it can take on the largest and most complex projects it can.
The company says it works with contractors on every project, from new boats to maintenance to repairs.
Avondale has a fleet of boats in the tens of thousands, according to company spokeswoman Jennifer Baugh.
The boatyard has built more than 1,400 boats and has a reputation for quality.
Baugh says she can’t reveal how many of those boats are finished or how many are under construction.
Baugh says the company is working with the state on its water quality plan, which is the cornerstone of the Maine Environmental Protection Agency’s efforts to protect the state’s waterways.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection’s plan calls for better water quality, but Baugh and other industry experts say it’s not enough.
“I’m not aware of any company that is able to do this,” said Dr. Mike Hulbert, a professor of environmental engineering at Maine State University.
Dr. Andrew Dutton, a climate scientist at the University of Maine at Farmington, said it’s unlikely that any company can compete with the size of Avondalys boats.
According to Dutton and other experts, a lot of the cost of water quality planning goes into getting the water quality information right, and a lot that goes into building boats that work the way they should.
When it comes to building a new boat, the state must pay the company $150,000 or $500,000 for each boat, depending on the size, he said.
It’s an expensive process, especially for smaller firms.
There are also environmental and financial concerns, including how to pay for the water system and for the boats, he added.
A few years ago, Avonday had about 1,000 boats under construction, including boats for the coast.
Last year, the company added 2,500, including some boats for Maine’s northern coast.
If the state doesn’t get a better plan, Dutton said, “the only way you can survive is to try to buy a boat, and then you have to pay a lot to get one, which means you can’t afford to have any of the other boats.”
The company has a long history of producing quality boats.
It started as a family operation in New York City in the 1920s, but the company started out making boats in Maine and shipped boats all over the world.
It began to make boats in Europe in the 1960s, then moved to the United States in the 1970s, where it expanded its production and sales to the states.
In the 1980s, it expanded into the North American market, and today, Avon is the third-largest boatyard in the country, according a 2012 study by the Center for Environmental Technology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
For decades, Avons boats were known for being among the best boats in their field.
But they have also been the target of criticism from environmental groups, who say they are not safe, don’t work well and are environmentally damaging.
They also say the boats can have health and safety issues.
Maine’s new plan is aimed at making the boats more water-efficient, Baugh said.
“We want to make the boats that people want to use and use for a long time,” she said.
