There’s a boat yard for every boat and, for the past two decades, that’s exactly what’s been happening.
The area has been a sea of red paint, rust and water since the late 1960s and early 1970s, and now, as the harbour is rebuilt, it is changing to a sea that is green and lush.
“The water here is so good,” said John Taylor, a former marine engineer who now works at the harbour.
“It’s always been this beautiful place.”

“I remember coming in here with my brother and we had a good time,” he said.
“We had a couple of boats and we all went out and just enjoyed the boat yard.”
You could sit there for hours.
“For many years, the marinas dock was a spot for visitors to relax, but now, the harbour has been converted into a sea life attraction, with the boats taking to the water to make the dock their own.”
People come here to get their fish, and they don’t come here for the sea,” Mr Taylor said.
It has also brought back memories of the marinos days in the early 2000s, when boats and the docks were the centre of life.”
Before the marinas, you could come here and just go down and see the marins, just go along and look at them,” he explained.”
Now it’s just a sea-life park.
“Mr Taylor said the marines were able to stay on the docks for up to six months, even during periods of heavy rain.”
They just keep coming back here, and we can come back here and stay in the mariners’ cabins, because we’ve got boats here,” he added.”
But it’s always a sea, and you just need to keep your head down and be happy with what you’re doing.
